The SD Association (the group that sets standards for memory cards) has announced a new format called SD Express that increases the overall storage capacity of SD cards from 2 TB to 128 TB as reported by Engadget.
If you always face a storage problem on your card and find it difficult to store your favorite movies and songs, then do not worry, the SD Association has heard it. According to the source, the new SD Express format will allow you to store more than 25,000 HD movies, 256 million photos or 25.6 million songs on a single SD card.
It is expected that these SD cards with higher storage capacity will replace your hard drives. Interestingly, the new format increases the maximum capacity of SD cards from 2 TB to 128 TB. In addition, you can increase the data transfer speed to as much as 985 MB per second.
More than that, SD cards with a high degree of storage capacity and transfer speed will have potential applications for video creators that record in 4K, 8K or VR. But it is important to bear in mind that the capacity of 128 TB is a theoretical limit. Even 1TB cards are very rare, and 512GB cards also cost hundreds of dollars. So, if you want to get that 128 TB card, be prepared to take out some mortgages. Just for your information, it is expected that the card is within years of reaching the market.
